    Every application needs an optimized way to collect data. To accommodate this needs various types of electrode caps like active or passive caps, shielded or non-magnetic caps for several applications like fMRI, TMS, MEG etc. are available.

    The third generation of active electrodes

    Brain Products is proud to present actiCAP, another ground-breaking development aimed at raising EEG & ERP research to the next level. actiCAP combines active electrodes based on high-quality Ag/AgCl sensors with a new type of integrated noise subtraction circuits delivering even lower noise levels than any other normal active electrodes achieves.

    But that‘s not all: actiCAP can be connected to nearly any existing research EEG amplifier system. All of our amplifiers as well as most of our competitors’ amplifiers will work with actiCAP. If you decide to switch from passive to active electrodes you will no longer be forced to exchange your entire recording system. Simply keep your existing hardware, and the acquisition and analysis software you are used to working with and add the actiCAP to reduce your preparation time e.g. for 64 channels down less than 10 minutes.

    Some more actiCAP features in brief:
    Impedances are measured and displayed at each electrode by using LEDs
    Impedance values are stored in a text file and can be reviewed any time during data analysis

    Each electrode can be disconnected from the system and replaced with a new one in case of malfunctioning
    Electrodes can be plugged into the cap before the cap is placed on the subject. In fact a slit in the electrode housing allows to inject gel and minimize the impedances while the cap and the electrodes are already in place
    The BrainCap ensures high patient comfort and fast skin preparation

    Over the course of our time spent in the neurophysiology research market, we at Brain Products have endeavored to listen very carefully to our customers‘ views and requests. The BrainCap is a result of this policy as it makes the preparation time very fast and assures high patient comfort and quality data recordings.

    The BrainCap is a fully customizable cap with up to 256 channels and high-quality Ag/AgCl sensors. The electrodes fixed to the cap are extremely flat. This solution is very comfortable for the subjects as it avoids excessive pressure onto the scalp, even in sleep studies during which the subject lies on the electrodes.

    Specially designed electrodes for the co-registration of EEG/MEG and EEG/TMS signals are available. The BrainCap is extremely handy and robust and is easy and fast to clean after use.

    Important safety aspects for combined MR recordings: BrainCap MR - the new design
    Safety Aspects:
    Electrodes must not touch the skin. Our new electrodes are pin type sensors which are placed inside a plastic holder mounted on the cap. The holder is filled with gel to reduce skin conductance and to establish a contact between the sensor and the subject‘s skin.
    Every electrode contains safety resistors between the sensor and the connection wire. Connection between the components is performed by gluing, not soldering.
    Additional safety resistors are placed inside the cap connector, acting like an additional RF-filter.
    Wires are located on the outside of the cap to ensure isolation between skin and
    wire according to FDA patient safety regulations (watch video on YouTube).
    High temperature isolating tubes around the ECG electrode cable avoid contact between skin and wire.
    ECG electrodes do contain higher resistors than normal electrodes to compensate for the technical characteristics of longer wires.
    All wires are fixed into the cap to avoid loops.
